Presentations have always been a strange part of human society. We ask other members of our species to climb up onto a soapbox in front of us to either tell us things we already know, or tell us things we disagree with, all while laughing at them and making weird faces.
Presenting is difficult for a number of reasons, most notably, for me, anxiety. As a person who grew up with anxiety disorder, being asked to go in front of a group of people who don't want to be there and talk was akin to asking me to go in front of a group of people who don't want to be there, strip naked and dance a terrible rendition of the Macarena... and I can't dance.
Dealing with anxiety typically comes in a lot of different fashions which have no effect whatsoever for someone with anxiety disorder. Imagining everyone in their underwear for example just make one wonder why girl's tops and bottoms never match, or why some people are wearing briefs and others boxers and oh my god I'm straying from the presentation topic what was I presenting on again?OMGOMGOMGOMG I'm Panicking Now I'm In My UnderWear.
The one trick to presentations that tends to work is just to break the ice. If you're audience is comfortable you will be comfortable. If they laugh you'll feel more relaxed and happy, and just remember you're up there to tell them something, so they have literally one just: sit down and shut up.
Hell, they should be nervous. You might be about to tell them the secret to immortality, or how to make these weird tiny pancake thingys, they don't know.
Yeah listen up homies it's about to get educational up in this-
