All about proposals and I don't mean marriage.

Explain the difference between an unsolicited and a solicited proposal.  Also explain the difference between an internal and external proposal.

A proposal is typically defined as a plan or suggestion, especially a formal or written one, put forward for consideration by others. This essentially means a formal suggestion that one presents to another. With this definition in mind the definition of an unsolicited proposal is simply a formal suggestion send to an organization of individual about a project or opportunity that the organization or individual did not ask for. This essential is to notify the organization of a problem that they may or may not be aware of and proposing to fix it. A solicited proposal is more like a response to a problem that an organization or individual may be facing. Therefore unlike the unsolicited proposal the organization has acknowledged a problem and is asking for assistance. On the topic of proposals in different organizations employees may have ideas that they my want to pitch to the company that they work for. This is usually referred to internal proposal. Essentially this is a suggestion or idea that originated from an individual within the organization. However an external proposal is usually when an organization sends out an opportunity to assist them with a problem the organization in experiencing. This opportunity is advertised to other organization separate and apart from them.
