Name at least one thing that you believe you have learnt in class

The importance of emotional intelligence, is one thing that has really stayed with me since learning of this term. I learnt that successfully achieving this can influence your work performance in that good management of your emotional intelligence aids in manipulating  socially complex situations. Also, it helps to encourage others in the workplace as well as being considered as a valued  personnel who could properly navigate highly pressurized instances. Additionally, knowing how to control yourself emotionally is very beneficial to maintaining good physical health. This is so because if you are  able to mange your stress levels, you can alleviate any circumstance that might arise. Consequently, mental health is also preserved by effectively controlling your emotional intelligence. This in turn reduces stress, easily defuse spiraling situations and it can also be used to comprehend the emotions of others as well as form healthier relationships.

   I have learnt that a memorandum is one piece of informative communication tool that does not require exhaustion. A memorandum should be as specific as possible, hence cut down on length and eliminate unwanted information. 

  To make a memorandum more attractive to the receiver for reading, one may incorporate the use of sub-headings (depending on the length or amount of ideas raised in the memo), so the reader can easily navigate along it and sort information quickly; and as a result get to the point of the sender's purpose in the memorandum.

One thing I have learnt from this class was that preparation is key. Proper planning prevents poor performance. In order to be successful and do your best, be prepared. It pays to be prepared for anything especially during an presentation or a pitch when your hit with impromptu questions or interruptions.

One Thing That I Have Learnt in This Class

I have learnt many things from this course but one thing that I really learnt from this course is the three important steps when formulating my ideas for any project, and that's - pencil out a plan of what they project should entail, what it should look like, who the target audience etc., compose the project with all the relevant ideas and information, also evaluating whats important fro what isn't and the finally  all the ideas in one to  and complete the project through any method relevant to the task, whether it be printing it, emailing it, presenting etc. to finalize the entire task at hand.

Is it important to practice Emotional Intelligence when conducting business communication?

One's emotional intelligence, involves how we identify, understand and manipulate our emotions in a manner that best benefits us or the situations with which we are in. The importance of practicing emotional intelligence when conducting business is that it assists in a person being able to judge or recognize the emotional state of others and use that to their advantage. Likewise,  by being able to control your emotional intelligence, this will aid in navigating your way through a difficult business venture through means that does not compromise you emotional credibility.

The Most Difficult Thing When Doing a Presentation

I think the most difficult thing is doing a presentation is confidence Being confident makes or breaks the presentation. Being confident is being prepared,being prepared means you are ready for the unexpected. Most time during a presentation a unexpected question throws off the presenter and sets in panic. Being prepared for stuff like unexpected interruptions prevents panic.

What is the most difficult thing when doing a presentation?

Personally, the most difficult problem I face while doing a presentation is the delivery of the information onto an audience. When there is a large group of people present, I seem to always lose my nerve. Seeing as how I am chronically plagued with stage fright, despite continuous practice, relaying a message in a room full of people whether or not they are familiar has always been a challenge. On the other hand, the pitch of my voice too sometimes poses a another challenge which enables the stage fright. Stemming from being overcome with nerves, the tone and volume is sometimes affected which might affect my delivery as well.

These are what trouble me the most when presenting.

From my perspective the most difficult thing when doing a presentation is the "pitch" (A way of talking that is intended to persuade or to gain the interest or attention of an audience) of the presentation. The presentation pitch, which is one of the most important things in presenting can make or break a presentation. The pitch of a presentation is what really catches the attention and interest of the audience, creating more of a connection between them and the presenter, So if the presenter's pitch is poor then there is a high chance of the presentation being a failure.

Difference between an unsolicited and a solicited proposal. Also, difference between an internal and external proposal.

The main difference is that a unsolicited proposal is not formally requested while the solicited proposal requested as a solution or answer to the queries of a client or potential client. One could also see a difference in that unsolicited proposals could be considered as suggestions towards a clients business or work.

Likewise, the difference between an internal business and an external proposal is that internal or Business Case is directed towards other parts of the business as a tool of communicative exchange amongst members or co-orkers. Yet external proposals, also called "quotations" are directed to clients or customers.







Explain the difference between an unsolicited and a solicited proposal. Also explain the difference between an internal and external proposal.

A solicited proposal is when the customer asks your for a proposal,while a unsolicited proposal is when you take the initiative to send a potential customer a proposal that was not requested.

A internal business proposal popularly referred to as a  business Case, is a document directed at other parts of the organization. This acts as a tool for internal change within the organization. An external proposal is directed at potential clients or customers.

Plan, Compose and Complete. Complete is the last stage in the writing process yet, it is seen as the most important. This stage is what i consider the make or break process. It has to power to make or break a deal. Within this process is where the writer proof reads, to determine if any errors were made or if any correction of any sort is needed.

Completing is the Last Stage of the Writing Process, Why is it Important?

With Completing, being the last stage of the writing process (Plan, Compose, Complete) it is very important because it is the final stage that will give a lasting impression to the public or to a client. The final stage of the process can open doors to more jobs for a writer/designer, depending on how well it is executed.

Completing is the last stage of the writing process, why is it important?

     I believe that the stage of "completing" is where one finalizes what was written and gives a closure to the piece. In this step, the writer should check for any errors, may it be of spelling and grammar or any divergence from the initial objective that the writer had set out to meet. The stage of "completing" is basically for proof reading and editing before disclosing the written piece.

Importance of Completing as the last stage of writing process

Completing in the writing process is important because it is through that process where you tie in your argument. It is a means of finishing a thought so as to provide meaning or convey your understanding of a topic, especially in an instance where there is no familiarity.

Likewise, completion allows for revision, where you are able look over your work to properly critique what you wrote down. In said instance you can judge and evaluate if you answered whatever question was given to you or if you strayed from the objective.

In your opinion, what is the difference between a designer’s resume vs. a non-designer’s resume?

In my opinion, the difference between a designer and a non-designer resume is that, with a designer resume:

  • Colours and images can be used in the resume
  • It can be printed on any paper type, if wanted
  • The content on the resume does not have to follow a strict layout and can be positioned anywhere on paper (as long as it is easy to read and understand)
  • It is Usually more expensive to print
With a non-designer resume:
  • They do not use colours or images. They are all usually in strictly black and white
  • It follows a standard order where contents on the resume always falls under each other, like a list
  • It is only printed on regular white letter sized printing paper
  • It is Cheaper to print

In your opinion, what is the difference between a designer’s resume vs. a non-designer’s resume

In my word the biggest difference between a designer's resume vs a non- designer's resume, is the structure. A non-designers resume has a standard structure worldwide,while a designer's resume allow creativity with no boundary. It allows the person to sell their creativity as a designer, displaying his/her creative capabilities.  A disadvantage of the non-designers resume is the fact that most time you have to rely on an interview to sell your self.

What is the difference between a designer’s resume vs. a non-designer’s resume?

The main difference to me would be the level of creativity that is allowed or even expected. In regards to the designer resume, this seems to be more of an outlet to showcase your abilities as a proclaimed designer. It could also be considered as the first piece of work a company will see of your talents.
 The non-designer's resume is simply a  truthful recount of your experiences while in the work world as well as the skills you earned to but there a specific rules that you have to follow. Creativity is restrained while doing the the non-designer resume but the designer resume allows you to run free with your imagination, proving your worth as a  designer.

In your opinion, what is the difference between a designer’s resume vs. a non-designer’s resume

     I think a non-designer's resume has sole focus on theory where composing a resume is concerned. It pays more attention to content and organization of information. It is used to provide academic and other relevant social information such as experience and non-academic engagements with society.

     Conversely, I think a designer's resume has to encompass more than content and organization of information. This type of resume has to serve as a preview itself or proof of the designer's capabilities. As a result, creativity serves as an additional key element in creating a designer's resume.

In your opinion, what is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?

The 5 P's of success proper planning prevents poor performance, applies to all aspect of life. In designing, planing is rather important. Before attempting a artwork we sit and we brain storm and we plan the layout and approach of such a job as in may be different for every job. It is important to plan as you may fall off track somewhere in the design process, and may need to refer back to the planned outline for the design. Last but not least planning saves time and allows you to be more efficient.

In Your Opinion, What is the Importance of Planning Before Working on Your Art Work?

In my opinion planning before working on my art work makes me more prepared and organized. It helps me to compare and contrast my decisions on how to make my art work as successful as I really want. Planning is also a strong guide line for me. If I am doing an art work for a client, showing them my plans that I have penciled out would give the client a firm idea of what the art work is going to be like in the end. In advance, from showing them a negative or positive feedback from the client would really save me from making a mess or getting confused and becoming unsure in the final stage of the art work.

What is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?

Planning before working on your artwork is essential, for one, it prevents an artist from making stupidly simple mistakes which saves up on time. Similarly, planning lessens the possibility of wasting resources since a proper arranging of you efforts gives you the ability to progress evenly.  Instead of rushed work which causes unnecessary usage of supplies.  Likewise, planning ahead enables one to be able to practice or repeat a piece enough to be able to possibly perfect it. Also, when you plan out your artwork, there is a better chance of you sticking to the theme that your were given. As oppose to just winging it and getting lost somewhere in the middle and not meeting your objectives.

What is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?


     I believe that planning before working on an artwork is technically the most logical way to go. Planning, especially when it is about something totally new, should start out with generalized ideas or grouping of large aims that one wishes to achieve. As the process of work or generating ideas flows, more detailed listings of what will or should be done will come into play.

     Planning saves time and may also control costs where fewer errors are incurred or even a proper budget put in place for equipment and other resources needed to work with.

Communication is a two way process, if done effectively with the proper amount of care. It is a means of understanding another's point of view or even their way of life. Feedback is essential to this process because it is through corresponding that one will know if his/her's audience understands.The purpose behind communicating is to bridge the gap between two or more participating individuals by exchanging ideas, feelings or just general information along with appropriate feedback that facilitates a shared meaning and comprehension.

What Is Your Understanding of Communication?

    Communication is the transfer of information and ideas between a sender and a receiver, through a channel (phone, internet, language, etc.).  For communication to be really effective between the two, the information from the sender has to be decoded in a way for the receiver to understand and in turn give feedback to the sender. If the information from the sender is not properly decoded in a language that the receiver will understand or is disrupted over the channel which it goes through, then a communication barrier would be created and in turn the communication process between  the sender and the receiver would be broken down.

What is your understanding of communication?

      I understand communication to be a process whereby a message is encoded and then transmitted, by the sender through a particular channel or medium, to a receiver, who then decodes the message and provides feedback, hence completing the communication process.
      Communication cannot occur without feedback, (as listed above as apart of the communication process). The absence of feedback limits the process and therefore defines it as transmission of information.
      Communication may occur via various channels or media, for example (print, word of mouth, electronic media, etc.) which in initial stages, is dependent upon the nature of the message being communicated.
