Blog #2 - Danielle - Importance of Planning...

Kaixo!
Blog #2 question: In your opinion, what is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?

Firstly, to plan means to set out what one wants to achieve, to set out a specific way of achieving a certain objective. When doing anything, anything at all, it is imperative that planning is done! If you have a presentation, it is important to plan, if you an essay to write, it is important to plan. In particular, when it comes on to working on an art piece, it is imperative to plan because of several reasons:

When you plan:

  • You know exactly want you want to set out to do; you know your objective.
    • when you know your objective you'll know from there what approach to take next, you'll know whether the design should be loud and boisterous, or simplistic and quiet. You'll know exactly what the client wants the message to be.

  • You can brainstorm how you want your design to look.
    • ...rather than just opening up Photoshop or Illustrator and randomly crafting up ideas. - This wastes time and is not productive and can lead to you not giving the client what he/she asked for.
  • It saves time and money.
    • when you take the time to plan, when it comes to work time you'll know what to do. This saves time as you can meet deadlines better and earlier; and this saves money as well because when a designer misses a deadline, if they aren't fired, then they are paid less.

Planning in anything is integral to the success of it.

Planning

As a designer I understand that you don't always get the chance to make a proper plan on paper but, you most like have a mental idea of  what you want to accomplished and mentally "plan" your  way threw the creation process.  Planning is obligatory.  A great philosopher once said "those who fail to plan, plans to fail"

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

What is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?

The importance of planning is in the execution. Whereas a piece of artwork without planning wouldn’t have a determined time of completion, a planned piece is thoughtfully put together saving time, effort and money.

Planning a project allows you to do many things, which include:

1.     Clear Objective: - Planning allows the designer to have a clear and concise purpose, which provides instructions to achieve an excellent product.
2.     Timeline: - Whatever project you’re working on can be mapped according to progress towards the due date. Achieving set milestones made during the planning stage allows you to track the development of your artwork.
3.     Results: - When you plan artwork before you execute you are able to create a piece that communicates well and get the desired result.

Planning is integral to producing a quality product. Truly, planning is the single most important part of executing any project whether its artwork, business strategy or even competitive sports. It is key to saving money and time, commodities that are very valuable to any business. Perhaps a more valuable lifeskill to possess aswell.

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

Planning

As a designer planning is essential because it helps to outline the problems you may face in creating your artwork and also allow you to break down the design process in a critical way which helps you to better understand ones creativity process

Blog #2 The Importance Of Planning

It is important for a designer to plan before an artwork, as it allows for better organization, time management and it ensures that the designer executes an artwork in an efficient and effective manner. When designers plan ahead it allows them to communicate effectively and allows them to address and rectify any limitation they may have. It also allows the designer to uncover the needs of his clients.

To illustrate a rally race car driver usually take laps around the track before an actual race and actually has a co-pilot seated beside him who notifies him of corners before they come up. In other words planning beforehand allows designers to make better decisions which in turn will allow them to be more prepared.

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail.

In your opinion, what is the importance of planning before working on your artwork?

Have you ever heard the same: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. These sentiments carry much depth as it

highly supported by many individuals. With intense planning, a designer, researcher or an ordinary worker
saves

himself worthwhile time because he/she will be organized. With intense organization and planning  one will
be

able to carry out their task effectively.

To illustrate, if an individuals wishes to build a house, a blue print has to be drafted first. Why? Sometimes they

want to see the potential outcome of the actual house. Additionally,it will help to

guide the direction of the workers involved. Hence, with a precise plan, they are able

to save not only time, but their energy and preserve their resources. This is attributed to the fact that they are

organized and will be able to successfully monitor the direction or workflow.

For many individuals,especially those in the creative industry as graphic designers;

planning is needed to skillfully carry out their projects.  Planning before you start working is crucial.  It gives

designers an idea of the direction they wish to take. It makes allowance for corrections that may come up

anytime before they actually begin working on any artwork.  It presents them with the opportunity to know beforehand

how the work may turn out, or whether or not it will please their clients and may build their self confidence because they will be calm and

collected if they should present their artwork or pitch it as a proposal.

What communication means to me

Communication is the basis of interaction across the globe.  Communication can be defined as the process by which intelligence's transfer shared meaning.  Communication can be further broken down as being composed of the primary parts: sender, receiver, message, channel, medium, context, feedback noise.  Without these elements communication is not taking place. One of most important aspects of communication is feedback, if there is no feedback there will be no sure way of knowing if the message was communicated or received.  For example in the game Chinese telephone where one person whispers a message to another person until it reaches the end where the message is announced, in most causes due to noise the message that passes through the channel may be affected by “noise.” As a result in most cases, proper communication does not happen if  the intended message my not be received.

My Idea of Communication.

Communication.

Communication is the transfer of a message from the sender to receiver in any particular situation, along a channel. sometimes however we are faced with noise, things that distract us from the message being communicated.

Communication can be verbal or non verbal, symbols can also be used to communicate, However communication isn't complete without the opportunity for feedback.  As media practitioner's communication is essential to proper production. This opportunity allows the persons involved to clear up any misunderstandings.

In any communications situation a message must be clear  and concise. Listening is also important to the process. Without cohesion between the speaker and audience listening to the clearest instructions or message would be left up to interpretation.

If proper communication isn't achieved many things can go wrong with a project, including wasting resources like time and money.  Getting the information correct the first time help to eliminate errors later on down the line and helps streamline production.

(1) My Understanding of Communication

I understand communication to be an exchange between 2 or more different users. There are many forms of communication around us on a daily basis: man to man, man to several others, man to computer, phone to man, device to device, etc. The part of the exchange that makes a successful transfer of information is the feedback given from the retriever of information.

For instance, if a visually impaired, older individual were to attempt using a microwave and she pushed the buttons for 3:00 (3 minutes) - there are a few ways that the lack of feedback from the said microwave that would make this instructional form of communication an ineffective one.

For one, if the buttons do not have some form of kinetic feedback (where the buttons sink in when pushed) she might push a number more than once to "ensure" that what she wants is typed in correctly.

Well then, she could just see that the timer does not say 3 minutes, right? If she's visually impaired and the screen of the microwave is very tiny or possibly dimly-lit, this form of feedback is not reliable enough for her.

There also might be lack of audible feedback as well; a beep to suggest a button has been pressed - or even a voice to say which button has been pressed would be helpful in this scenario so she knows that the microwave has received the information that she wanted to pass onto it.

Blog #1 - Danielle - Describe Your Idea of what Communication Is

Kaixo!
A happy & prosperous sophomore year to us all! ^.^

Personally, I believe communication to be the interactive and successful / effective transfer of data that has shared meaning, between parties.

Once there is no shared meaning of the data, i.e., once the data being transferred does not mean the same closest thing possible to both parties, leaving misunderstanding to take place, then there is no successful transfer.

If there is no successful transfer of the data, then communication has not taken place.

If there is no interaction, i.e., if the receiver cannot submit feedback to the sender, then communication has not taken place.

The Visual Content Explosion!

MDIA2002 Blog Assignment #1 "Communication-Monique Smith"

Name: Monique Smith
Course: MDIA 2002
Lecturer: Mrs. Chevonnese Chevers Whyte

Question: Describe your understanding of communication.

In ancient times, cave men used various signs and symbols engraved on the wall to serve as a means for them to document and effectively pass on information from one individual to another.  Overtime, communication has become refined to suite today's generation.  Communication enables individuals the opportunity to transmit information from a sender to a receiver, so as to gain an interpretation or an understanding.

Moreover, communication can be described as either verbal or non-verbal and can be achieved through written, oral and visual interactions.  It can also be acclaimed that communication can be deemed as either effective or ineffective due to the medium and how the receiver perceives or interprets the message.

To illustrate, a common place game called 'Chinese telephone' is a demonstration of how communication can either be effective or ineffective.  If at the end of this game the first message remains pure through transmission by word of mouth; then the communication is rendered as effective.  However, if the first message has been reconstructed and does not remain pure to its origin after word of mouth from one party to the next, then communication is deemed ineffective.

In conclusion, as a digital media student, communication means the ability to creatively and effectively help individuals to understand my ideas and concepts.  Our role as designers is to maneuver ways that aid in communicating ideas to a wider audience.  Communication then, means for practitioners in this field that they become adept at translating concepts so that people can understanding whatever they set out to achieve.  Being able to do so effectively will enable me to have a carer built on progress where I can climb up the corporate ladder.  Hence, with hard work, dedication and good communication skills, this will enable myself and others in my field to achieve our goals.
